EUROPE AND RADICAL ISLAM
In the upcoming election, the candidate closest to Western Europe's leaders is John Kerry. The joking references to "the French looking Senator who, by the way, served in Vietnam" are a shorthand way of indicating the affinity of world view between the Democratic candidate and Europe's frightened leaders. Kerry even boasted of their support, until he realized the political effect--though he won't name names. The entire democratic party now counts itself ideologically and politically closer to those leaders than to the hated President Bush. Fouad Ajami explores the Euro-appeasers dilemmas. American voters should keep this in mind when choosing their President:
"...Europe's leaders know Europe's dilemmas. In ways both intended and subliminal, the escape into anti-Americanism is an attempt at false bonding with the peoples of Islam. Give the Arabs--and the Muslim communities implanted in Europe--anti-Americanism, give them an identification with the Palestinians, and you shall be spared their wrath. Beat the drums of opposition to America's war in Iraq, and the furies of this radical Islamism will pass you by. This is seen as a way around the troubles. But there is no exit that way. It is true that Spain supported the American campaign in Iraq, but that aside, Spain's identification with Arab aims has a long history. Of all the larger countries of the EU, Spain has been most sympathetic to Palestinian claims. It was only in 1986 that Spain recognized Israel and established diplomatic ties. With the sole exception of Greece, Spain has shown the deepest reserve toward Israel. Yet this history offered no shelter from the bombers of March 11..."

We thought in 1990, as I wrote Diane Ravitch some time ago, that we were entering an age of peace. In 1928 with the Kellog-Briand Pact we thought we were safe.
But the wisdom of the Auld Book remains: THERE WILL ALWAYS BE WAR AND RUMORS OF WAR. Until all mankind -particularly the Arabic realm- embraces Democracy and limited government –something not likely to happen we must be prepared for great changes and great challenges.
In the lands of Godlessness or “bilad al kufr” the Islamists –I call them Islamofascists are, of course RIGHT ABOUT ONE THING.
Passionate belief and discipline and a strong family culture will trump the weakness and selfishness of disbelief.
I recall Iraq, Egypt, Tunisia, and Turkey as well as Lebanon were all Christian majority nations before they were crushed beneath sword and –let us not kid ourselves- counter revolution from within from mercenary soldiers and peasants converted to Islam.
Disbelief and a cult of hedonism and childlessness among the “Euro-kafir” (unbeliever) presents Islamofascists with a tremendous historic opportunity and they hope they can succeed in their goals:
1)Destruction of Israel and extermination of the Jewish race whose memory and existence challenges the veracity of the Koran.
2) strangulation of a democratic Iraq. This could be the greatest battle in history since Normandy when began the liberation of Europe from the Fascist Nazis and prevented the Communist takeover of Western Europe.
3) destruction of secular Turkey the only other democracy or limited government in the Middle East besides Israel
4)and the spread of Islam into all Western nations. Feminists awake! You too will be absolutely exterminated and suppressed once Islamic law is imposed. In my view western women should be the most vigorous opponents of islamofascist. But Feminists are not. Because they know I think that nothing really bad will happen YET in THEIR LIFETIMES. Parents and mothers see the threat of 50 and 100 years from now much more seriously. The threat to freedom including equal education for all and woman’s suffrage is very great.
France should come first and the defeat of France in Algeria in 1962 –and let’s face it the roots of this defeat are in 1940 and 1916 (Verdun) was the beginning of this disaster for French culture.
The day could come when French is a commonly a spoken language as GAELIC. Languages begin in the cradle and if the hand that rocks the cradle speaks Arabic… and if the population “tips” ….Then what. No nation, no language is guaranteed longevity nor success.
Queen Isabella was wrong about the Jews in 1492 –they posed no threat to Spanish unity- but was she wrong about Islam? Liberal opinion is that she was wrong. Worried about Mexico? Thank God Islam was not permitted to take root there in 1519.
I hope that Moslems in America take a leadership role in fighting Islamofascists. Individuals have done so just as individual Germans were anti-Nazi.
But once again we remain deeply skeptical that Islam –an authoritarian religion infected with the Totalitarian temptation- can peacefully coexist with modernity.
Praise the Lord....and pass the ammunition...we are going to need both in the fight ahead.
