SIR, HAVE YOU NO SHAME? KERRY'S MISUSE OF CLELAND
Friend of Horsefeathers, Ruth King, submits the following timely observations on the uses of victimhood:
IT WAS A SCENE THAT COULD HAVE BEEN ORCHESTRATED BY MICHAEL MOORE: POOR MAX CLELAND, VIETNAM VETERAN, TRIPLE AMPUTEE IN A WHEEL CHAIR, OUT IN THE SWELTERING TEXAS SUN TRYING TO DELIVER A LETTER TO THE PRESIDENT.
IT WAS REVOLTING, AND KERRY SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF HIMSELF. CLELAND WON NO MEDALS FOR HIS HORRIBLE INJURIES BECAUSE THEY WERE SELF INFLICTED IN AN ACCIDENT, BUT THERE HE WAS, RUNNING AN ERRAND FOR KERRY WHO WON MEDALS FOR SURFACE WOUNDS. CLELAND HAS BECOME KERRY'S POSTER BOY- WHAT A TERRIBLE WASTE.HE WAS DEFEATED AT THE POLLS, NOT BY HANGING CHADS, BUT BY A MAJORITY VOTE AGAINST HIM. NONETHELESS KERRY USED HIM AT THE CONVENTION AND CONTINUES TO USE HIM.
DID KERRY EVER HIRE DISABLED PEOPLE IN HIS SENATE STAFF? DID HE EVER MAKE ANY SPEECH ABOUT "AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES"? IS THERE ANY LEGISLATION BEARING HIS NAME ABOUT DISABLED AMERICANS?
MAX CLELAND IS CRUELLY USED AND INFLICTS DAMAGE ON HIMSELF. HE COULD HAVE TURNED HIS REMARKABLE ACHIEVEMENTS IN SPITE OF SUCH HANDICAPS INTO A CRUSADE FOR THE DISABLED...LECTURED TO AND INSPIRED YOUNGSTERS, GIVEN HOPE AND COMFORT TO AMPUTEES, VICTIMS OF ACCIDENTS, INJURED VETERANS ETC. INSTEAD THERE HE IS A PATHETIC SIGHT, SHILLING FOR KERRY WHILE THE LATTER SITS IN AIR-CONDITIONED COMFORT WHINING AND NEIGHING ABOUT THE "SWIFTIES."--Ruth King

Have you no respect for Cleland, that you don't think he knew what he was doing?

Have you no respect for yourself?
Do you have any idea what you are doing?
As far as Cleland, I have no respect at all for his performance. He's a liar just like Kerry. If either one of them was interested in respect they would tel the truth.
Same for you.
Posted by: Grumpy at August 27, 2004 12:50 PM
Grumpy, the whole thing is silly, that Cleland has to be saved... The man has achieved his majority. He can sign contracts! You, however, may not have reached your majority, and may not be aware of the responsibilities which adults accept.
Poor Max Cleland. It's laughable.
Posted by: Frank at August 27, 2004 01:24 PM
Frank , you're an idiot. Who said anything about Cleland needing to be saved?
I don't think Cleland can be saved from the damage he created to his own reputation.
Same for Kerry.
Same with you.
Still, you shouldn't laugh at him.
Posted by: Grumpy at August 27, 2004 05:34 PM
Ah, Grumpy, name calling is so very like you. I wasn't laughing at Cleland, I'm laughing at the notion that he's to be pitied. How very superior it must make the infantile to pretend that they have a greater sense of propriety than he does.
Posted by: Frank at August 27, 2004 09:58 PM
I wonder if either Ruth or Stephen thinks Max Cleland can't think for himself, and if so, on what basis?
Posted by: Sam at August 27, 2004 11:12 PM
Frank, you're an idiot, and laughable.
But, just to be clear, you surely don't deserve any pity, since it's your own choice to continue suffering from Bush Derangement Syndrome and refuse to seek treatment.
It's also your choice to speak about Cleland and "propriety" after his own infantile and churlish public display.
Maybe you and Sam could be penpals.

Grumpy, your eloquence in your last round of posts last night speaks volumes!
You're having trouble following the thread, so I'll remind you... The idea that Cleland needed to be "saved" came from the original post from Ruth King, suggesting that Kerry had "used" Cleland both at the convention and in the message delivery. I have countered that Cleland is a mature adult, and we shouldn't doubt that he knew what he was doing, thus no need for pity nor to rescue him from the evil clutches of Kerry.
As for your other posts late last night, they say so much about your extremism and mania, I'll let them be: you couldn't even tell who you were responging to in some cases, apparently. If all the right was like you, I might take the time to respond to each, but I think more highly of conservatives than that.
Posted by: Frank at August 28, 2004 10:01 AM
Frank, if I ever heard you making a public statement that you thought highly of a conservative, I would recommend they get legal counsel and sue for defamation of character.

Max Cleland had earned himself enough respect here in Georgia as Secretary of State, to make a succesful run for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Sam Nunn. Once in Washington, he certainly proved that he was no Sam Nunn! Naturally, one cannot help but notice the injuries Cleland
suffered during his service in Vietnam, but injuries do not insure a certain definition of Patriotism. His Vietnam-amputee status is trotted out when sympathy equals political expediency, and this latest bit comes as no surprise !
I never believed that Cleland's defintition of "Patriotism" matched my own when he voted to deny Boy Scouts access to federal lands, and to revoke their Congressional Charter. Despite being a seemingly small matter in such a large world, I believe those votes speak volumes about the true character of that man!
