MARIE ANTOINETTE IN BROOKLYN
"...Clothing is wonderful, but let them go naked for a while, at least the kids," said Heinz Kerry, the wife of Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry..."
"...Heinz Kerry stopped by a market in the heart of Brooklyn's Caribbean community, where she spoke French with Haitian vendors and shook hands with volunteers busy packing food, clothes and other relief supplies to be shipped to several Carribean islands hit by Hurricane Ivan..."

I hope everyone _did_ see the rest, because when you add on the rest of the quotation, it sounds like a very pragmatic approach to rescue efforts, the kind of pragmatic perspective which should be admired.
Here's the whole paragraph from the Yahoo link:
"Clothing is wonderful, but let them go naked for a while, at least the kids," said Heinz Kerry, the wife of Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry. "Water is necessary, and then generators, and then food, and then clothes."

Isn't she horrid, to think about priorities, and that it's warm there?
Isn't Horsefeather horrid, to not bother to provide the rest of the quote? Twistin' the night away...

Nice try Sam but do you for a moment think THK took the time to consult anyone who actually knows what rescue work entails before she made such a statement? I'm sure a billionaire who's husband is running for President could find some authority to talk to before running her mouth but true to form she just spits out whats in that head of hers.
Something tells me that running around naked in post-hurricane conditions might just be an invitation to disease but I admit I don't really know. Unlike the first lady wannabe I'll defer to someone who actually knows what they're talking about.

In true radical conservative fashion, bloggerrabbit, you've made a suggestion without offering any evidence to support it. How do you know there hadn't been any discussions beforehand? (It's not up to me to refute you yet, you have to offer evidence.)
You also apparently have nothing to say about whether or not there is value to what she says; in the days following 9/11, rescue workers at Ground Zero were swamped with some types of supplies which they needed, and too little of others. Priorities are important, and only a jerk bent on scoring political points at every opportunity would bypass the intelligence of what she said in favor of sucking up to fellow conservatives in this tiny little windbag of a forum.

Oxfam must be heartless, too:
"The first thing will be getting fresh water, and there will also be a massive need for blankets and shelter materials"

Speaking of misconstrued priorities in response to a disaster, Ms. Ketchup might want to consider making arrangements for a massive disaster relief shipment of new talking points to the DNC and Kerry Campaign.

Thank you Sam for making me more attentive to journalistic standards. I am confused though and am in need of your keen insight. The BBC article you cite has these two statements
a) "The first thing will be getting fresh water, and there will also be a massive need for blankets and shelter materials."
b) "We are asking people to donate practical things to help people who need them," said Lester Lewis, chairman of the Hackney Black People's Association.
"This could be tinned food, clothes, nappies, towels, toiletries - anything that's used for living," he added. "
Isn't this a lot different than saying that maybe the kids will need to be naked for awhile?
Anyway I'm beginning to think Sam was being facetious and I was taken in. Easy mistake to make. My apologies.

"Unlike the first lady wannabe I'll defer to someone who actually knows what they're talking about."
Well, she grew up with her father running a clinic in Mozambique. You, on the other hand, have found a way to leave comments in a blog. Gosh, are you sure you should defer? Cause it sounds like you might qualify as an expert around these parts....
As for the BBC article, you were reading too closely to catch this line:
Too bad they didn't leave their advice in the comments thread of a wacko right-wing blog. They must not know what they're talking about....

Gee, it seems the right nowadays sure likes to quote people out of context.
I voted for many Republican presidents. I switched sides when it became obvious which side was lying. This is just another example. They come every day.

Got ready to post the whole quote, then it seems people who actually think beat me here! It is somewhat comforting that a mindless right-wing blog seems to draw more pro-Kerry comments than otherwise, and that (hee hee) bloggerrabbit seems to be the leading right intellectual here. Of course even the posts by those who enjoy being jerked around by partial quotes, when presented with the whole quote, fail to address the argument and why they think her list of priorities is wrong.
I'll go with Oxfam over the well-meaning but not well-informed HBPA.
Gee, Grumpy, was that ever a clever contribution to the discussion. How about we talk about what well-placed, old-line Republicans are now saying publicly about Bush's running of the Iraq "catastrophic success?"
