Think now on the War Memorial, Princess Street Gardens, Edinburgh, There is the figure of a kilted Highland soldier on the plinth looking across to Auld Reekie (Edinburgh Castle) which dominates the scene. Behind him is the emotive bronze frieze depicting the men of Alba (Scotland) answering the Call to Arms. The carved inscriptions is not English-only but in all three of Scotland’s living languages. Here it is, it is not well known but it is a good thing to know I think.
