A story in NYT today (Sunday - Sec. 4 Cover Pg.) is that Hezbollah's bragging rights have transformed the anti-West movement from Pan-Arabian to Pan-Islamian. Therefore (according to NYT reporter's musings) the movement has become stronger. Maybe so, but a downside for the Islamians is that, without realizing it, they have demonized themselves to the Western Joe Six-Packs who have had trouble despising "Terrorism" (and the War on It) or even "Terrorists." Neither is personal as a stand-up villian in the way that 'Nazis' and 'Japs' were 60-odd years ago). Muslims, on the other hand, are flesh and blood, something around whose throats Joe can get his hands. Joe may very well latch onto this new designation and still yet give Bush the popular support he needs to lower the boom and finish the job he started. The Muslims may have shot themselves in the foot, and we may be about to lift ourselves out of our politcally correct malaise.

Great quote by the great Sir Winston Churchill who was unashamedly a great British nationalist. Did you read one of the comments on the article by a British Muslim? Note the British Euphemism for Pakistani and Middle Eastern People a reaction to the brutal time in which they were sardonically called other less flattering things. Now we have gone to the other extreme. Would Churchill have called the Nazi's " democratically challenged people of another point of view in a changing world?"

Segregating as in AMERICA JUST RECENTLY? The reflection of narrow mulitcultural teaching no doubt. Boston public schools were intergrated in 1851. That is just recently? Jim Crow, an anachronism in a minority of states in the deep South was outlawed completely in the years 1954-1965. That is just 'recently'?

Note also the veiled threat to cultural secession. "As a British Muslim I feel less a part of Britain..." Yes, one may experience alienation at times. As the son of an immigrant to America I have suffered alienation. But I have realized that ASSIMILATION is a two way street but not on terms of total equality. Society asks more of me than I can ask of society, particularly in the public square. When in Rome one must, in public life, do as the Romans do.

I personally can't blame the passengers. They had a perfect right to feel that the CHANCES OF MARTYRDOM were higher than normal. The people are not sheep. They have a right to vote with their feet. And they were very well behaved. And the "Asian" gentlemen in question were not lynched but only slighly inconvenienced.

Remember the British people on this plane did not act this way for no reason. THEY have been constantly THREATENED WITH DEATH by BIN LADEN and other heinous minions of his murder cult. Under the circumstances they chose not to take any chances. In WWII German nationals and others of German origin had to be very careful with their credentials and their casual use of language.

My father recalled how a German-speaking man wearing a US Army uniform was arrested by the MP's in Manila in 1945. He came within a hairbreadth of facing a firing squad. Fortunately, for him my father could speak German and verfied that the poor lad was a farmer from rural Wisconsin who had not much schooling and though he had be BORN in America could barely speak any English.
I remember my father telling me that he told the German-American how lucky he was to be arrested drunk and disorderly in Manila and not Milan or Marsailles!

And I cannot but mention Bastogne in 1944. My Uncle was there with the 10th Armored Division. I remember he said they caught German spies and infilatrators in two ways.
1) the German spies had US Army ID cards that said IDENTFICATION not INDENTIFICATION. Most of the US Army cards of a certain number had that misprint which the perfectionist Germans had CORRECTED. On more the one occassion that single transpostion of a letter meant death by firing squad. They were considered spies and illegal combatants and in those days the US Army did not mess around
2) the other way -invented by the GI themselves- was to quiz strangers on American sports. As my Uncle was an immigrant and not a sports fan AND HE COULD SPEAK GERMAN TOO this put him under suspicion as well at times. Fortunately, my father and grandfather WERE GREAT BASEBALL fans and had dragged my uncle along to some games and inflicted him to radio play by plays. In such an extreme my uncle remembered who Pete Reiser was and a few other details as to how to get to Yankee Stadium. But my uncle never talked to German prisoners for fun. It was too dangerous. They were the enemy. He made no secret of the fact that there was no love between him and the hun. After all dozens of his kinsmen had been killed and wounded in the first war. But he constantly had to explain why he knew German so well. He explained he studied it in high school and college and had a knack for languages after all English WAS HIS SECOND LANGUAGE as English is my second language. It was not unusual for my family members who were men of the sea and men of Empire to speak several languages including the lingua franca of Empire, the Saxon tongue of the Southern People of that sister kingdom known as the English.

If Muslims want respect and prove they can peacefully coexist with non-Muslims they must:

1) Denounce terrorist murders of innocents, Muslim, Jews , Christians and others.

2) They must inform on Terrorists and Murder Cultists.

3) To show their loyalty to the Democracies that give them safety, securitiy and liberty they must volunteer to serve in law enforcement as translators or policemen and the military so that the terrorists can be contained, arrested, removed from civil society or eradicated.

If Muslims fail to do these things and if they make excuses for the Islamofascits among them then they are letting the Bin Ladens be the spokemen and role models for their religion. There can be no question that few Muslim leaders actively denounce the anti-Semitism and hate propganda of their bretheren. They make excuses. In that they are no different than the "good Germans" of the 1930's who went along with Nazism and who were constantly defenders and apologists of the German military and the Nazis.

Anti-German Nazis were few but they were prominent and many were ardently anti-Nazi.

I personally knew a Sudentland Czech ethnic German who fled Nazi occupied Sudentland and instead joined the British Army. It was a hard choice. As I said he was an Ethnic German and knew classmates and cousins who eagerly embraced Nazism and enlisted voluntarily in the Nazi Party and in the German military. By escaping to Britain he put his whole family under a cloud. I remember he said he used an assumed name when he served. If he was captured he did not want the Germans to know his identity of the fact that he could speak German. (He could speak Czech as well and English). As a serving British soldier he NEVER SPOKE GERMAN except in the line of duty and that was his native language. Among his comrades he spoke English or Czech exclusively. He said it was a matter of respect but also good order and discipline.

They knew they had a lot to prove and they also know the soul of Germany was at stake.

Well, now the soul of the Islamic world is at stake.

Where do British Muslims stand? Indeed where do Iraqi and Pakistani and American and Canadian Muslim stands. They must stand against this Mortal Storm of this faction of fascists who ARE OF THEM AND AMONG THEM. Yes, they are of them and among them. That simple fact the British people on that flight knew. The simple fact is people will respond like that out of feeling of self-preservation. They have nothing to be ashamed about, especially when you consider the lawfullness of their behavior.
