A friend a graduate of VMI wrote to me this morning:
It is Memorial Day out here on the Left Coast. Surrounded by self-absorbed narcissist, Marxist/Socialist ‘progressives’ who believe the sun rises from their foreheads and sets… well, we won’t go further… there are still those who remember, and are grateful…
Was driving by the National Cemetery at the Presidio of San Francisco yesterday afternoon, with our three-year-old daughter in her kid seat in the back. Of course, every headstone was already decorated with flags for today’s events. Even the small plaques, on the slope closest to the road, for those who had been cremated, were decorated. Much bigger flags flew at various intervals along the fences and walls.
Virginia said, ‘Daddy! Look at all the American flags!’
I explained to her that under every one of those gravestones is a soldier, sleeping forever, who once fought to protect us.
You could tell she was thinking about that, and for a moment she was silent.
And then she said, “Daddy, are their soldiers even under the little ones?”
Sometimes the kids are out in front of us… you know what I mean.
Remember those who are giving their all and risking life and limb for our security and freedom and remember those who answered the call and were made sacrifices upon the altar of freedom.
